The Mere Cruiser
So, we have had a lot of discussion regarding our new Ugly fighters by Kad. Uglies while being fun to talk talk about, will be a vital part of the game. The Peace Brigade, pirates and many Hutt Mercenaries all use Uglies. The Hutts have a very aging and old fleet, relying on many of its forces be comprised of Pirate and Mercenary fleets such as those stationed at Ylesia and Kessel. The Hut faction will need to find ways to evade the Vong and Galactic Alliance in order to build up its shipyards and develop its true fleet, which will then allow it to finally wage war and expand the boundries of the Hutt Empire (alternate game history). But, until all that can happen, the Hutts have to use whatever old scrap ships they can find, which are slow moving cargo haulers outfitted with blackmarket weapons, that just happen to be effective vs Alliance forces due to the reinforced armor hulls from operating within the asteroid fields.
One such ship as this is the Mere Cruiser. The Mere is slow, weakly shielded, but above average armored for a light cruiser. This makes it a rather tough tank of a ship (for its size), able to pack a punch with its 8 medium turbos and 9 black market Imperial AA blasters. The Mere also has a hangar, and can launch 1 squadron of Ugly interceptor craft.

A short Q&A on Uglies:
Q1: Can you make dirty/rugged/whatever textures?
A1: We could, but we're currently not planning on making different textures for uglies. We just feel like untextured units take the priority.
Q2: When looking at the ugly it should have this and that particular weapon/defense/whatever configuration, can you make it so?
A2: There are enough arguments to support an almost unlimited number of sensible configurations of ships made of scrap parts, so we pick what's best for gameplay and balance. Deal with it.

![Crusader-Class Gunship]()
Fast, shielded, lightly armored, bristling with guns, lasers and all sorts of nasty...
The Crusader Gunship was a vital part of the Mandalorian Defense forces. It was faster than DP20, but not as armored, and featured decent shielding allowing it to withstand some heavy weapon fire. Crusaders featured 4 quad AA mass drivers turrets which could do equal damage vs capital ships and star fighters alike and featured 10 flank mounted point defense lasers for intercepting incoming projectiles.

And we are back...
We are doing lots with the mod behind the scenes, 2 major task are adding new lights to ships, and finally adding Shadowmeshes to all ships: This will allow dynamic shadows to be cast by gun turrets and other ships onto the hulls of ships below them.

Re-inventing the word: BADASS
The Vengeance features our second set of Red Lights, which will be used primarily for larger capital ships of the Mando race. The 2 red light textures will give us a nice bit of variety for detailing.

We have been having some very interesting discussions internally, trying to agree on the ship lights for different ships -- good healthy debates which delivers a lot of creative thinking and healthy discussion. After some careful deciding and voting, we came to the conclusion that the color of Bright Mint Green would become the new ship light color of Hapan vessels (Nova Cruiser Battle Dragon, Star Home, Beta Cruiser).
We picked from Green, Emerald, Light green, mint, and bright mint as colors...
Bright Mint as seen here, is the battle ready color for Hapan

So, we have been very busy....
Kad and I are working every day on this. I am waking up at 4am in the morning to work on this, and working again from 8pm at night until about 1-2am every day, Kad is doing probably about the same.
We are on a mission to show this.
The public has wanted a Finished Executor to replace the default game's for a long time. It has been 1 year since Jedi_Clone first gave us the executor model ( http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-battlefront-commander/images/new-ssd1#imagebox ) and we are trying with all our might to have this finished and in-game by next week.
WE WILL DELIVER ON OUR PROMISE.
and we are VERY CLOSE.
Today, a teaser showing our perfectly created shadowmesh, thanks to Kad for developing a new and great technique for this process (to be shared later as a tutorial). While Kad starts rigging I am making the textures, we will continue to release updates as we approach our grand reveal.
This is going to be amazing in game :)

So, I thought this would be interesting to share with everyone...
I have never seen a SSD textured as detailed as I am trying to make our Lusankya/Guardian for a low poly RTS game like EAW. If polylimits and unlimited textures were no issue, this thing could be incredible, but we are striving hard to make a game that does not lag and runs smoothly, so with that, we are trying every trick imaginable to bring the Lady Ex to life....
but honestly... as a texture artist...
I HATE THIS SHIP.
LOL...
Sure, it's big, beautiful, massive and Kad went totally crazy putting like a billion guns on it, but I am doing my damnedest to keep it at 8 textures for the ship hull. It is a real challenge trying to get a good variation of detailed semi-realistic texture on a ship this size, and having it look believable when shown next to other ships that are only a fraction of the size.
Just late night thoughts as I work on this, trying my best to make this look awesome for everyone, here is a little preview with a mighty brave New Republic task force approaching the stern...
