2 versions of the same ship, the Imperial Escort Frigate was an advanced gunship developed by the Empire for close ship support escort roles. Fast and nimble with decent shielding for a ship of its size, the Escort Frigate features a "breezeway hanger" allowing for the quick repair of fighters and shuttlecraft. Lacking heavy armor, the Escorts were required to remain close to the larger battleships they were escorting. Used primarily for fending off raider/assault frigates and corvettes, the Escorts were armed with a pair of fast tracking Imperial grade turbo laser turrets on top with twin dual light laser turrets mounted beneath the rear wings.
The Chiss were given the design which they modified to be more of an assault vessel (seen in silver). Upgrading the armor and concealing the command bridge, the Chiss opted to remove the light laser turrets and instead add a third fast tracking turbo laser turret on the belly.
